Biography
Art has always been a love of mine, so in 1995 when my children had grown, and family responsibilities lessened I began to study it seriously. First starting in acrylics, but quickly moving on to watercolor and other mediums, I discovered many wonderful surprises and possibilities.
I paint because I love color. . . mixing, mingling colors and experiencing what happens. My paintings consist primarily of watercolor but also other media, such as aqua sticks, Conte crayon, and oil sticks. Composing shapes, colors and lines to make an appealing design that move you around the painting is more interesting to me than making realistic representations. I would like your eye to happily dance around my painting stopping occasionally to enjoy a little surprise here and there.
The more I paint the more I realize the need for additional knowledge. My search includes studies with nationally known artists Skip Lawrence, Frank Webb, Jeanne Dobie, Joe Mayer, Virginia Cobb, and more recently with Katherine Liu. I have taken a variety of courses at The Art League, Alexandria, Virginia.
My paintings have been juried into the Vienna Arts Society, the Reston Art League, and Florida Keys Watercolor Society shows. Additionally, my paintings have been exhibited at the Newman Gallery in Washington, DC, the Vienna Arts Society Gallery and The Arts Council of Fairfax at GRACE.
I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, currently reside in Reston, Virginia with my husband, and spend winters painting in the Florida Keys. During the rest of the year, on most Fridays you will find me happily painting with the “Friday Painters” somewhere in Shepherdstown.
